Group-A Racing’s Yang Wins At Road America
Group-A Racing’s Jack Yang put on a dominate show at Road America for rounds 7-9 of Radical Cup on the NTT Indy Car weekend. The Group-A Racing driver earned his first career pole in qualifying and led many laps in route to winning race three of the event.
Thursday & Friday saw all the Radical Cup competitors get an immense 5 hours of practice time at the iconic 4 mile Road America circuit, on the high profile Indy Car weekend. During the 5 sessions, Group-A Racing drivers topped the time sheets 3 of the 5 sessions in the PRO 1500 class. The team and drivers went into qualifying with confidence and executed in fine form with Jack Yang earning his first career pole in Radical Cup.
Race one would see a handful of short full course cautions, causing many restart periods. This would result in Group-A’s Yang to try and mix up his restart straitegies among the young charging competitors to hold them off. The final lap restart dash would see action packed side-by-side racing with Yang and Nick D’Orlando. Jack would have to concede and take a 2nd place result after leading many laps. Yang would win the Gold Cup within the PRO 1500. The Gold Cup is a secondary class within the group for drivers 30 years or older. The Group-A Racing driver also set the fastest lap of the race in route to his 2nd place finish, this would put him on pole yet again for race 2.
Race two saw the clouds open in the Elkhart Lake Wisconsin area and heavy rain falling. With the big picture in mind some conservative driving put into place to be there when it counts. The race would be red flagged after only 1 lap due to immense standing water as track officials sent equipment out to improve the driving conditions. The race would get restarted with short stint at the end which would see Group-A Racing driver conserve home with a top 10 result in the PRO 1500 class.
Race three displayed perfect sunny blue sky’s. Jack would have to start farther back, but would waste no time using his pace in his Group-A Racing machine to start charging forward. After just a few laps he would quickly find himself on the rear wing of the top 3 drivers. Jack would continue charging forward taking down the much younger drivers. One-by-one he picked them off to then take the lead with 2 laps remaining. After taking the lead he would never look back and proceeded to win his first race win in Radical Cup! With his overall victory in the PRO 1500 class, Jack would also win the Gold Cup class designated for drivers 30 years or older in the PRO 1500 class.
“This is such a huge win for Jack and the team” commented team owner Jonathan Scarallo. “We really were the dominate car to beat all weekend and Jack did such an awesome job extracting the speed out of it. For Jack as an older driver to win and beat all the kids is just phenomenal. 3 years ago, he started with us and he had never been on a race track before and now he’s a winner in Radical Cup! Another great testimony of how we take drivers from the bottom and work with them and turn them into winners at the highest level.”
Next round of the 2024 Radical Cup schedule will be at another historic track with IndyCar. June 21-23 2024 for rounds 10-12 at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca. Drivers interested in test and race opportunities with Group-A Racing contact Jonathan Scarallo 631-974-4379 info@GroupARacingTeam.com
