Round 2 of Circuit Battles Goes Up In Flames For Scarallo & Group-A Racing

Pheonix, Arizona. The home of Group-A Wheels west coast warehouse, also the site of Circuit Battles round 2. With a win in the previous round, season opener, Joey Scarallo was looking to take the Group-A Wheels GTO to another victory. After a rain soaked first day, which washed out practice, the cars finally hit the track. This was immediately not looking to be the weekend for a repeat win as gearbox issues began to plague the GTO.

The shortened event schedule lead us straight into qualifying. With gearbox issues looming, and no time in a shortened schedule to make a change, the Group-A Wheels GTO would skip qualifying and opt. to start last in the seeding race, saving time on the sickly gearbox. This set the stage for the 5-lap Super Session seeding-race. Gigliotti was able to take the lead from Cronin Jr. on lap one of the race, however the race had to be black-flagged shortly after the completion of the first lap, due to a gearbox breakage and fire in Joey Scarallo’s Group-A Wheels GTO. Thankfully, Joey was unharmed in the incident; however, he was forced to retire from the event. Lou Gigliotti would go on to win the seeding race and the event, dropping the Group-A Wheels GTO down to fourth in championship points.
