Glassberg Victorious in SCCA Regional With Group-A Racing
Group A Racing commenced its 2009-10 winter testing program recently, with AJ Glassberg getting behind the wheel of one of the team's F2000 Championship Series cars at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Piloting a Group A Racing Van Diemen F2000 car, Glassberg took part in an SCCA Regional event on the Lightning course at the NJMP facility. Having only previously driven a racing school car, Glassberg faced many challenges during the event. Not only did he have to make the substantial transition from a school car to a Van Diemen F2000 car with slicks, but was also forced to overcome less than ideal conditions, with high winds, heavy rain and temperatures in the low 40’s. Glassberg promptly overcame the challenges, showing good skill and speed.
“AJ did a very nice job coming to grips with our car in the scenario he was in," stated Team Owner Joe Scarallo Sr. "He is a very focused, and intelligent young man. He has a very bright future ahead of him.”
In the SCCA Regional event, there were three races in which Group A Racing's Glassberg got behind the wheel. Glassberg won all three races in class and one race overall in the pouring rain, showing great car control and race craft.
“AJ impressed us a lot this weekend," added Scarallo Sr. "He showed us he is a quick study, very focused and very professionalism attitude in and out of the car. The one race in particular when he won overall, the conditions were just horrible and he never put a made a single mistake and set some really fast times. I hope we can work together again in the near future.”
“I really enjoyed working with Group A Racing over the weekend," stated Glassberg. "The professionalism and family atmosphere immediately made me feel at home and I was able to come to grips with the car during the first session. Even with the miserable weather we were able to take three wins, which proved we are compatible as driver and team. I am positive we can be competitive in the F2000 Championship Series, and I look forward to things to come.”
Group A Racing is now getting prepared to start heading south for private testing. They have many testing opportunities available for drivers to get some seat time with a very professional top running F2000 team.
